The brief for 2008 is "INFLUENCES".

This theme is in recognition of the increasingly international influences being brought to our business and the broader European kiln-formed glass market.

All entries must include an element of kiln-formed glass work.

We have changed the format of this year's competition slightly to reflect the nature of the business. For the first time, there are three categories for entry into the competition as follows:

Artist's Prize: Open to all glass artists, regardless of experience. The prize for this category will be a place on one of our education courses, run by international artists including Catharine Newell, Silvia Levenson and Nathan Sandberg.

Student's Prize: Open to students currently studying on an accredited full or part-time Further or Higher Education course at a college or university. The prize for this category will be £500 to spend on products from the Warm Glass range.

Newcomer's Prize: Open to any glass worker who has begun working in the glass medium within the past twelve months and has not sold their work commercially. The prize for this category will be £250 to spend on products from the Warm Glass range.

Full details and rules can be viewed on this site.

The first Warm Glass UK glass prize was launched in 2005 at the Contemporary Glass Society AGM in London and Warm Glass UK are committed to encouraging excellence in all aspects of kiln-formed glass work by making this glass competition an annual event.

Each year's Warm Glass UK glass prize is given a new theme to inspire creativity and we very much intend it to remain open to artists of all abilities and disciplines and that new glass artists will be encouraged to enter a piece even if they are new to kiln glass work.
